Pièce Argent 5 Francs Hercule. Émise sous l’autorité du Gouvernement de Défense nationale entre 1870 et 1871, cette pièce en argent a été conçue suite au décret du 7 octobre 1870. Elle appartient à la série des 5 Francs Hercule et arbore une tranche en relief portant l’inscription « Dieu Protège La France ».
The obverse features Hercules wearing the skin of the Nemean lion and holding a club. He is flanked on the right by the allegorical figure of the Republic, brandishing a pike topped by a Phrygian cap, and on the left by Justice, identifiable by its triangular level.
Some rarer versions, notably those minted in 1871 in Bordeaux, can reach a value of €450 in TTB condition.
More than 72.9 million of these 5-franc coins have been produced. Like the other ecu-type coins, it has a weight of 25 grams, a diameter of 37 mm, and a silver purity of 900‰.

The obverse of the coin features the mythological figure of Hercules, clad in the skin of the Nemean lion and holding a club. He is accompanied by two allegories:
- The Republic, positioned to his right, holding a pike topped with a Phrygian cap, symbolizing freedom.
- Justice, on the left, wearing a triangular level, emblematic of fairness and order.
