The 5 Francs Louis-Philippe Ier Tête Nue Silver Coin. This 5 Franc silver coin, known as the "Écu", features a portrait of Louis-Philippe Ier with his head uncovered. The inscription "Dieu protège la France" (God protects France) is embossed on the edge.
There are some peculiarities, notably on the 1831 example minted in Bordeaux. Some models from this year are considered hybrid coins: they combine an obverse and reverse that don't match, the result of a manufacturing error in which two incompatible corners were used. These rare specimens can reach a value of around 2,000 euros in Very Very Fine (TTB) quality.
Among the most valuable editions in this series, the coin minted in Strasbourg in 1830 stands out. In Superb condition (SUP), it can be estimated at close to 30,000 euros.
This silver coin has a weight of 25 grams and a purity of 900‰, making it as historic as it is sought-after by collectors.
