Gold, A Metal of Many Colours

What Are The Colors Of Gold?
Common gold colors
Yellow gold: 18-carat yellow gold alloy is made up of 75% pure gold, 12.5% silver and 12.5% copper.
This is the best-known and most widespread color, as it is the closest to the natural color of pure gold, as in ingots and coins. This shade of gold is used in all fields. Yellow gold jewelry can be set with any type of precious stone and is mostly antique.
Rose Gold Rose gold is a combination of 75% pure gold, 20% copper and 5% silver. Although long-established, this color has recently joined white gold as a trendy hue. It is often found in watches and wedding rings. Any type of gemstone can be set in this shade of gold, but emeralds and tsavorite should be avoided.
White gold 18-carat white gold jewelry is composed of 75% pure gold and 25% silver and palladium. This alloy is also known as white gold. In Europe, the use of nickel is now replaced by rhodium plating because it is a source of allergies. There is also rhodium-plated gold. The rhodium-plating technique gives gold a white color and greater brilliance. Timeless, it can be found in all shapes and forms, whether in jewelry for wedding rings, chains, earrings and bracelets, or even in watchmaking. Thanks to its brilliance, white gold is the best shade of gold for diamond-set jewelry, for an engagement ring for example.
Rarer gold colors
Red gold: the red gold alloy contains 75% pure gold and 25% copper. Rose gold is derived from this composition by adding silver.
Blue Gold is an alloy of 85% gold, 14.4% iron and 0.6% nickel. To obtain a blue-green gold color, 75% pure gold, 24.4% iron and 0.6% nickel are required. This shade of gold is mainly used for decorative elements on jewelry. It should be noted that this alloy is the subject of a patent application which expired on 28/10/2019.
Violet Gold: This purple-tinted gold is obtained by combining pure gold with aluminum.
Green gold: green gold is obtained by mixing gold, silver and cadmium.
Salmon-colored gold is made from a blend of gold and platinum.

Do the different colors have the same value?
It's normal to think that value changes with color. Indeed, the metals that make up the alloys of the different gold colors have different values. What's more, their share in the different gold color alloys is random. If primers have different prices, objects can have different prices according to fashion. For example, a white gold ring will probably cost more in the jewelry store than the same ring in yellow gold, because it will be more fashionable.
However, the resale of gold objects of different colors to recover metals is generally only for the value of the gold. Gold is the most expensive precious metal, and the most easily recycled. Its value will therefore depend on the carat, the purity of the gold, and the price of gold, and for this you need to know the composition of gold and how to recognize it.
