La kuna croate dont le symbole local est « kn », est la monnaie de la Croatie depuis le 30 mai 1994 en remplacement du dinar croate, qui avait succédé provisoirement au dinar yougoslave.
Cela fait suite à la déclaration par la Croatie de son indépendance vis-à-vis de la République Fédérale Socialiste de Yougoslavie après les élections libres de 1990.
