Indonesian currency: Indonesian rupiah

The Indonesian rupiah is the currency of Indonesia. Locally, the symbol for the Indonesian currency is Rp, locally pronounced rupiah, and its ISO code is IDR. Born during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia during the Second World War, it became the national currency on November 2, 1949, replacing the Dutch East Indian guilder, four years after the country's independence. Its name was inspired by India's monetary unit: the Indian rupee.
