Egyptian currency: Egyptian pound

The Egyptian pound, whose symbol can be L E, £ E, or E £, is the currency of Egypt, whose first banknotes were issued on April 3, 1899. A large number of currencies circulate in the country alongside the Egyptian pound, as much of Egypt's economic activity is linked to international tourism.
As Palestine shares a border with Egypt, Egyptian currency is also used there, along with the Israeli shekel and the Jordanian dinar.
Previously controlled by the Central Bank of Egypt, the latter announced in November 2016 its intention to let the Egyptian currency float, causing its value to fall by half.
